Returning to the House of God
King Cyrus sent a decree out to rebuild the Temple. ”Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, The Lord God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah” Ezra 1:2. The Temple was rebuilt for the children of Israel. It would be a permanent place to worship God when they returned into their land. This redemptive work demonstrated the faithfulness of God.
So it is, God is calling His people back to the House. So that, we can worship God. Please note, engaging in corporate worship is just as important as private worship. Corporate worship brings forth unity and oneness in purpose. To show offer praises unto God. It is a place were the body of believers gather to publicly love our creator - God.
King Solomon built the Temple, God made a promised that His eye’s and ears would be open and His Name would be in His House.
2 Chronicles 6:39-41 (King James Version)
39Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.
40Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
41Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.
Reflections:
- The House of the Lord is central in the life of His people
- God looks after His own
- When things looks impossible God still is in control
- God works in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform
- God’s people are to be a separate people
- Sin has consequences
“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Psalm 84:10
